Okay ladies (and a few gentlemen), I know most of you have a pretty big crush on Christian Grey right now, but who did you love before him? I’m talking about the pictures you cut out of Tiger Beat, the posters you hung on your bedroom wall, or the movie you saw at the theatre 12 times because none of us had VCRs yet. That’s right, it’s time for “Confessions of a First Crush – Celebrity Edition”.
So get out that crimping iron, put
on those leg warmers, crank up “Jessie’s Girl”, and post a comment below
telling me about your “Teen Crush”.
As for me, I’m afraid I’ll have
to sit this one out. For those of you who frequent my blog, you already know my
first novel, Hollywood Ending - the
story of a broken hearted co-ed who sends an impulsive letter to the 80s hottest
heartthrob - was loosely based on my own true story. Obviously, I can’t reveal
my teen crush without also giving away the identity of the actor who inspired
the main character.
So instead I ask you, if you could have
had an adventure with the teen idol of your choice, who would it have been?
LOVE it. Can't wait for an Editor to pick it up! Duran Duran - Simon LeBon was always my choice!
ReplyDeleteBarbara
I had 2 of them. Rob Lowe and John Taylor from Duran Duran. Both were all over my bedroom walls and closet doors. I had pins of them that I put on my coat and backpack!
ReplyDeleteI want to read your book!!!!!!! Like NOW! :)
John Taylor & Nick Rhodes - Duran Duran
ReplyDeleteDonnie Walhberg - NKOTB
Tommy Lee - Motley Crue
Bret Michaels - Poison
Rob Lowe
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the excerpt! oooo teen crushes! So many to choose from, but I was totally a Judd Nelson girl! Swooooooooon!!!!
ReplyDeleteJohn Taylor from Duran Duran :)
ReplyDeleteMine is soo embarrassing that I will only put it on your blog. Maybe someone else will fess up and admit to also having a crush on......Erik Estrada!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I did that, a bunch of us used to play "C.H.I.Ps"
Go ahead, make fun.
Jon Bon Jovi
ReplyDeleteIt was a decade long crush that only ended a few years ago. I think it was the hair, and the guitar (fans self)
Since then my biggest crush has been a certain Mr Pattinson and more recently, of course, Mr Grey.
Your book sounds amazing and the extract is sooo
good.
DeleteThe missing word at the end of that sentence was 'good'.
It's been a long day.......
Omg ALLY! You are not alone with Mr. Estrada. He was my first crush too. I had a C.H.I.Ps poster on my bedroom door when I was 6. I graduated to John Taylor from Duran Duran after that. When I hit 13 it was Jonathan Knight from NKOTB and I've never looked back. Full disclosure, I'm going on my 3rd NKOTB cruise next week. Wicked excited, party of one.
ReplyDeleteThese days, I have my Celebrity Exemption List (all you married gals have one, admit it). All the guys on it are actual, living breathing males. Except one Christian Grey. But he's real too, right?
I feel so much better. Thank you Lynn!
DeleteMy Exemption List currently overlaps with my tween daughter's celebrity crush, so I am soo not going there.
What a great blog post AnnMarie! I shudder from embarrassment as I reflect back on my teen crushes.
ReplyDeleteFirst it was pretty much Rick Springfield all the way. Sorry girls but I was Jessie's Girl! He was on my ceiling and every square inch of my walls in my childhood bedroom.
I TRULY shudder to reveal this crush but what the hell. The Fonz. Yep from "Happy Days". Hard to even admit that when you see him these days. Although a nice gentleman I'm sure...NOT MY FONZI! He was just so cool back then and all the chicks loved him and again in my head he was mine!
Rob Lowe! Hell he's still hot today. He'd be a great Christian Grey although I'd prefer and unknown.
When Christian Grey came along I felt like a giddy young school girl again with a crush. So crazy when you think about it! Your blog has kept me interested AnnMarie and feeling carefree again! THANK YOU!
I cannot wait to read "Hollywood Ending". No FAIR you didn't tell us your crush! I know, I know, can't ruin your book! Let us know the minute we can purchase or download "Hollywood Ending"
@ValeryGene
Ok...here goes *groaning* Andy Gibb and the luscious Scott Baio! It was love, love, love for years!!! Oh my...how my tastes have changed!
ReplyDeleteAnother great post Ann Marie! I loved Andrew McCarthy and John Cusack. But, I have to say, I have never been quite as obsessed with someone as I am with Christian Grey. So ridiculous, since he is not even real!
ReplyDeleteDitto with John Cusack! Glad to know there are a lot like me who's Grey-sessed.
DeleteRick springfield was my first celb crush.
ReplyDeleteThis is my 1st Blog that I have followed... Ann Marie you rock! Since I am an 80's baby my TEEN CRUSH was Leonardo DiCaprio. :)
ReplyDeleteJason Priestley. Totally. THE EYES.
ReplyDeleteAlso- Tiger Beat. I'd totally forgotten Tiger Beat.
I can't wait for Hollywood Ending! After I read it, you absolutely have to DM me who the character's based on!!
Okay. I'll admit, I was an "I have a crush on __" machine. I have to say my "first" was Ricky Schroeder. As a matter of fact I believe my first diary entry was, "Dear Diary, I'm madly in love with Ricky Schroeder." I moved on to Ralph Macchio eventually and ultimately Harrison Ford (something about the whip I think . . .)And then I saw "Say Anything" and well, enough said. I still ask, "Where are all the Roy Doblers of the world?"
ReplyDeleteJohn F Kennedy Jr, Jim Morrison and Roger Daltrey. I also liked Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh, let me see. I think it was Leif Garrett (BACK THEN). Also major crushed on Kirk Cameron (again, BACK THEN). I joined his fan club when he was on Growing Pains.
ReplyDeleteLoved the excerpt!!! Can't wait to read more! :)
ReplyDeleteI had Luke Perry on my wall. Gotta love the bad boys!
Jenni - @jay_lu_boo
John Taylor....sorry ladies who mentioned him already, he was mine!
ReplyDeleteI did have some John Stamos posters up and loved Rob Lowe, too.
my first celeb crush was George Eads from CSI, who is now ironically the face of Jason Taylor on twitter. :))
ReplyDeletelove the excerpt. can't wait for it to be published :D
Joey Mac Nkotb hands down. Still crushing!!
ReplyDeleteScott Baio (remember Joani Loves Chachi anyone?) and Rob Lowe from the Outsiders.
ReplyDeleteMy first crush was Shawn Cassidy when I was 4 years old. Then as a teen John Taylor, Sebastian Bach, Joe Elliott then Eddie Vedder. Guess I had a thing for musicians. My grown up crush is Norman Reedus and of course Christian. Lol
ReplyDeleteI have never loved anyone like I love Christian but... Back then... I have to say... Jon Bon Jovi O.o
ReplyDeleteFinally - I knew I couldn't be alone! :)
DeleteTeenage crush was Dirk Benedict in The A-Team and Battlestar Galactica. Also Michael Brandon. OK so I'm cracking on now & showing my age.
ReplyDeleteMore recent crushes are Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Orange.
My strangest crush was Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder 2.
Remember that movie "The Princess Bride"? I was into Cary Elwes who played the farmboy turned pirate Wesley who is out to save his true love Buttercup. I watched that movie over and over just as I am now reading Fifty Shades trilogy over and over.
ReplyDeleteJoey McIntyre was my first love as a 10 year old girl. In middle school it was Joey Lawrence, Tevin Campbell and Jeremy Jordan. AJ McLean and the Backstreet Boys and Usher held my heart as a late teenage girl. Now, it's Adam Levine, William Levy, Robin Thicke and Usher
ReplyDeleteLuke Skywalker lol. Then Jason Gedrick
ReplyDeleteHow could you not love Luke Skywalker as a kid? He saved the universe!
DeleteOh, I TOTALLY found Luke Skywalker hot. Especially in Return of the Jedi!
DeleteMine was Jordan Knight from The New Kids on The Block, and JTT (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Devin Sawa. I Could have never chose between them
ReplyDeleteThe entire cast of The Outsiders.... C. Thomas Howell was plastered all over my bedroom wall :)Was so obessed with him....
ReplyDeleteOMG I had all of the NKOTB Posters plastered on my walls!! Bon Jovi, Rick Springfield, Duran Duran, Culture Club, George Michael!!! Oh how I loved the 80's!!!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW!! Rick Springfield all the way!!!
ReplyDeleteI was an oddball because I always loved Alice Cooper!
ReplyDeleteNew kids on the block, john stamos, JTT....and Jared Leto...I'm still totally in love with Jared leto....those eyes....swoon.
ReplyDeleteThe two Coreys! Haim & Feldman. I met Corey Haim a few years ago. A dream come true. My adult crush is David Boreanaz & Jared Padalecki and I've met them both too.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am a Duran Duran fan girl as well. Secretly, Simon was my fav, but my best friend claimed him so I lied and said I liked John Taylor the best.
ReplyDeleteAnd, um...I kind of had a crush on Hank from Dungeons and Dragons (a cartoon, sadly) and Luke Skywalker. Both fictional dudes, but they totally had the blond feathered hair going.
Cheers!
Hi Ann Marie, I've been following your contests on casting "Fifty Shades," and wishing I could add my two cents on who to play Christian Grey. Alas, I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to modern day heart throbs. But I'm more than happy to chat away about my 80s' tween crush: Rob Lowe. He stared back at me every time I opened my assignment notebook at school, his photo clipped to the inside front cover. After "Top Gun," Tom Cruise entered the mix as well, but no one can ever top my first Hollywood tween crush with Rob. Thanks for all the online fun. Looking forward to reading your novel!
ReplyDeleteJon Bon Jovi, Axle Rose, and Cici DeVille. I was never really into super young heartthrobs that my friends had glued to their walls. My posters were of Poison, JBJ, and chippendale dancers. I know, I have subscriptions – issues have never been enough ;)
ReplyDeleteAnn Marie, will you be joining the 28 Day Author Blog Challenge? You should, it'll be tons of fun and our readers will learn a lot about us.
Have a wonderful day!!
Well, there were two from Falcon Crest and I'm willing to admit to one- William R. Moses. Luke Skywalker, how can you not fall in love with a Jedi?
ReplyDeleteBut if we're talking posters on the wall, I have to go with John Travolta. Yes, it was a Staying Alive poster, but Grease is still my favorite. :) Rockin' and Rollin' and what not.
I loved Ralph Macchio! I watched the Karate Kid about 50 times the summer of 5th grade.....I knew every line. Siggghhhhhh...........
ReplyDeleteMy first crush was Kirk Cameron followed by The New Kids On the Block. Lord knows how much I spent on those mags monthly.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Well here goes....Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy... Anyone remember the movie "Class"? Loved it. Also C. Thomas Howell, Rick Springfield from...was it General Hospital? The list goes on...but I'm sure Rob Lowe was at the top...until Brad Pitt arrived on the scene:-)
ReplyDeleteI had a giant collage behind my bedroom door of pics I cutout if Tiger Beat & Bop! Joey McIntyre was and still is my crush! Corey Haim as well and I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was 19!
ReplyDeleteOk, so I'm going to show my age with this. My crushes were Davy Jones, Bobby Sherman, and David Cassidy. Davy Jones was my all time fave though! When he passed away recently my sister's comment was, "Awe, that's too bad. Now you can't marry him!"
ReplyDeleteI loved Tiger Beat & yes, I had pics from it all over my walls. Cory Haim (aww, RIP), Christian Slater, Nicholas Cage(Valley Girl ), and the entire cast of The Outsiders!! Oh, to be a teen again..
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm with the rest of the gals, I can't wait to read the rest of your story.
River Phoenix. I had over 80 pictures of him taped to my walls. I probably kept Tiger Beat and Bop! in business.
